Out of the plethora of public and private schools my son has been to-this one has been the most deplorable. Firstly, he was given a teacher that was a known bully when she was a student in school. So already off to a bad start, but we hoped she had growth as an adult. Then my husband and I heard that the principal didn’t have custody of two of her children or that they had chosen to live with another parent. Again, odd. Especially in VA. However, we like to feel a person out prior to judgement. We sent our son on his first day. Staff was told prior to him starting he was diagnosed ADHD and Autism 1. His teacher accused him of bullying a girl with zero proof and basically sent my husband and I numerous emails (into late at night-very unprofessional) expressing in “kinder” words how awful our child is and that’s why she believes the other student. You know, that kind of demeanor? The principal was supposed to contact my husband and I about a 504, not only did she not contact us back-our messages were left on deaf ears. Never heard a word back from her. Quiet one when she has to put in work, we realized quickly. Which wasn’t surprising, considering she expressed to my husband and I how awful our child was and she was doing us a favor in not kicking him out. Thanks? If you have a child with any type of disability, avoid sending them here. There is very little training in handling disabled children (and if they are trained-they don’t care enough to use said training). They make it clear they do not want your disabled child, as it evidently is a distraction to the staff that is supposed to be trained to handle it. Mind you, my disabled child isn’t violent. He doesn’t harm others nor does he harm himself. And he tested higher than his peers. His school just made it clear just how much he doesn’t fit in when another student bullied him and the teacher refused to do anything about it-thus upsetting him causing him to cry. Which by the way, the principal seemed to find amusing a 9 year old autistic child has feelings apparently. Avoid this school like the plague, unless your children are healthy. They are lucky I like to keep my retainer/trust to a certain amount at my law office and my best friend’s grandfather is no longer the judge. Otherwise I’d find reason to put effort into ensuring these people get retrained on how to handle special needs children. He’s in a better educational situation now surrounded by people that have training and use their training.
