Description

A rare opportunity to live in an architecturally significant, 151 year old, Ante-Bellum home in Glendale. On the National Register of Historic Places, the McPherson Holland house can be remodeled and added on to, to fit today's life style. The Historic Register has no interior or exterior restrictions. The home features 4 bedrooms, 3 baths, formal living room and dining room, bonus rooms for office/study, lush gardens and attractive circular patios. Architecturally significant, the house is an example of Southern Colonial style, similar to those found in Charleston, SC. With its distinctive front porches, random width pine floors throughout its three stories, 9'10 ceilings on the first floor, the house has all the grace and beauty of a by-gone era with all the modern conveniences, including newer heating and cooling, main floor laundry and potting room addition and oversized two car garage. A rare find, a jewel in the crown of St. Louis historic residences.

Brokered And Advertised By: Janet McAfee Inc.
Listing Agent: Cynthia Woolsey

"Lots of quiet streets and lots of people walking their well-behaved dogs. Glendale even has poopie sack boxes in heavily walked streets and corners."
• Nicole M
"The Glendale area seems pretty safe and people walk their dogs and also let their kids walk around/ride bikes alone often. The area is really pretty and the drivers actually follow speed limits for the most part, so I feel safe walking my dog in the area. Not all of the streets have sidewalks, but everyone seems to be able to share the roads. There are also a lot of medians and grassy spots for dogs plus parks pretty close by. "
• Rhbell
"A great community with Main Street small town feel, great schools, safe, well located between highways. We’ve lived in this area for 15 years."
• Annied31
"The safety and beauty .. need more sidewalks and street lights and hate that people cut through our neighborhood and speed"
• Chris M. K.
"This neighborhood is a hidden gem. Everyone is friendly and neighbors help each other with random projects. Tons of kids in ‘the hood’ right now! Walk to the grocery, a bakery and other amenities "
• Peggyovalle
"Lovely, all-American neighborhood with children in the streets and people walking, jogging, riding their bikes. Nice good old neighborhood "
• Peggyovalle
"This is the all American neighborhood that you see in movies. Safe, friendly, and ideal for raising a family. Great school district and walk distance farmers market, little shops and restaurant. Plus a picturesque train station near by :)"
• Jbaue
"We've lived here since 1999 and we love it. We love being in an "inner suburb" with easy access to both I-44 and I-64/40. And West county is not far, either. It's the best location for enjoying the great offerings St. Louis has to offer, from the City Museum, the Art Museum, the Fox to the Muny, to the Butterfly House and Wine Country. We're less than 10 minutes from three major grocery stores and the best ethnic grocery store in the county. Resale, botiques, specialty restaurants, antique shops, fast food, drug stores, coffee shops--we have it all. "
• Rex W. S.
"In my involvement with a listing on Brownell I came to realize that Glendale is one of those all American neighborhoods you imagine yourself living in when you grow up. Charming homes on tree lined streets with friendly neighbors. Elementary schools are well positioned for easy walkability. This is really a neat area. "
• cullivour
"Wonderful area to live in- once someone moves to Brownell, they never move again!"
