10/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageThis review is written specifically for African American families with Black children considering a move into Wylie ISD. This is the review I wish I had read before relocating. We moved here from another state, and since arriving, my family has had a consistently negative experience with this school and district. This is not based on bias or comparison it is based on what I have personally witnessed and experienced with my own children. From the beginning, there has been a lack of hospitality, care, and basic respect. Texas is often described as “the South,” but there is no Southern hospitality here. Interactions have been cold, dismissive, and at times openly discriminatory. I have spent months in meetings and email exchanges advocating for my children. My Black children have been treated differently. I have also spoken with other Black families locally who report similar experiences. The district does not appear to prioritize or protect Black students.Teachers have yelled at, threatened, and spoken harshly to my children behavior that is unacceptable under any circumstances. Some of these teachers were Black themselves, which raises serious concerns about the school culture and pressure to “blend in” rather than protect Black children. Regardless of the reason, it is not okay.We attempted mediation, and even pursued due process, hoping the system would work as intended. It did not. The experience felt dismissive and nonchalant, including interactions with legal representation that gave a clear “don’t care” attitude. If you are a Black family considering mediation or due process in Wylie ISD, I strongly advise against it. It was a waste of time, energy, and emotional labor.Because of all of this, I withdrew one of my sons and am in the process of withdrawing my second. The system simply does not work for our family.I do not recommend Wylie ISD for families with young children especially Black children or children with special needs. Do not rely on the online ratings. The “10/10” scores are misleading and do not reflect lived experience. Academic rigor is lacking, homework is minimal to nonexistent, and accountability is low.If you plan to homeschool, Wylie may work for you the neighborhoods are quiet, safe, and well-kept. But if you are relying on the public school system to nurture, protect, and educate your Black children fairly, I urge you to reconsider.Parent Review5mo ago8 Reviews - Frank Mcmillan Junior High School

10/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageThey say no discrimination but it’s public they only have the Quran in the library and no bible. This is America not the Middle East. Stop trying to indoctrinate our kids to your liberal agendas and just shut up and teach. Seeing all the other comments just shows the power trip your teachers are on. Protect your kids by not sending them here or getting a full reset that’s the only way it is even worth your time to come here.Other Review1mo ago15 Reviews - Davis Intermediate School

8/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageWe moved to this school district after hearing such good things, that was a mistake. Our oldest "graduated" by them pushing him through with accommodations. He can barely read or write, barely can hold a job, but the paperwork from them says he can do all these things. Go figure. Second son is set to graduate this year, he's struggling with staying on task and getting to school on time, but he's 18 and I can't legally do anything...but apparently the school has it both ways, see if the kid is good they hold you to the "they're an adult" and keep patents out. If your kid misbehave or misses school all of a sudden it's "yes he's an adult but you're he's legal guardian so you're in trouble too". Only certain students get attention from teachers, most teachers will NOT contact you AT All. The Principal loves the sound of her own voice and has only time for certain families. New Assistant Principals were hired on this year and after talking to one it solidified that I will NOT let my third son who is autistic go to this school. As to safety student aids let just about anyone in when they're left unattended, my kids love coming home and telling me about all the fights that are happening at the school. Wylie ISD is great if you have well behaved, athletic, good academic kids... I do not recommend them for families with SpEd kids as they are not consistent and treat 504 and SpEd separately even though a ruling says they are the same. And no the teachers dont confirm IEPs before disciplinary action is being done.Parent Review3mo ago11 Reviews - Check out schools near 111 E Brown St.

"Considering the city is far, wylie is much more city like, things and places are very easily accessible and makes life easier. Pretty safe and neighborhood is friendly still up-kept and neat for the most part. Wish it was less cars in the streets but either way it’s a happy place to live."
