"Valle Crucis park is great for the family! There are great play areas for kids, walking paths, and fishing right on the Watauga River. There are great Mast General Store is an awesome place to visit with the family. There is a great beaf jerky shop nearby as well in Valle Crucis. There are 3 ski resorts within striking distance, plus lots of hiking. "
  • Emma N.
"Lived in the area most my life. Called the closest place to heaven. No longer the same like to visit on occasion but no longer a place I would live. "
  • James Behan
"We love the rural community, the people are friendly, lots of farms, beautiful in all seasons , you need to like mountain roads"
  • Suzie S.
"Great area if you dont have to drive & you can afford it. Mostly students, retirees, tourists, contruction workers, loggers, and wealthy 4th homes. Over 3,000 short-term rentals. No place for service workers to live. Very congested with roadwork and tourists in the summer. Nice weather, but it pretends to be the Aspen of Dixie. Housing is same cost as California, but no jobs."
  • Suzie S.
"I have seen the High Country change tremendously since 2010. Itt saddens me that we cater mostly to tourists & so many summer residents are incredibly rude. No housing for middle income. It is a huge issue. Beautiful views & weather despite Mack trucks, Loggers, and constant roadwork & traffic. If you are uber wealthy & don't have to commute or work, it is the bees knees as any place would be."
  • Ambur F.
"We have block parties on every 4th of July. They have things for adults and children. I also know all my neighbors by their first names. "
  • Cindyduckworth
"we have a pool and great neighborhood the people are very friendly and everyone has a pet . I hope to get to know everyone better."
  • Melinda_kolar
"Great schools & colleges, amazing neighborhoods and very family oriented & pet friendly. It’s an incredible place to live."
  • Greeneyedgirl0027
"We have block parties on major holidays. With food drinks and games for kids including face painting."
  • Kjbutchko
"I see a lot of dog friendly venues. People are dining outside with their fur babies. Many services for pets - groomers, vets, pet supply stores. I have not seen any dog parks."
  • Greeneyedgirl0027
"There is a lot of grass and hills for the dogs to have fun on and sniff. The only downside is it's a busy street and dogs can easily be hurt by oncoming traffic."
  • Acutabove
"I have lived in my neighborhood for almost 18 years and find it quiet and friendly. We are close to 105 therefore are close to all amenities in the High Country."
  • Sonhamby
"I have lived at my address for 8+years! It is truly amazing. Summer is awesome here! Winter is brutal!"
  • Dmtvbh
"We love the nice cool weather, and everyone we have met have been completely amazing and helpful in any way! We walk to the park daily with our 4yr old and our dog it’s so beautiful!! "
  • russellfamilyhk
"We have a second home in Chestnut Falls and absolutely love it.....great area to get away from it all but still be accessible. Love it."
