I love this school, a big percentage of the parents volunteer and that creates a great community of support and resources. My daughter is high functioning autistic in a regular classroom. Volunteering in her class helped me see what areas she was needing additional support. Her teacher let me take home work they would do during the week so she could practice and slow down at home. For special needs I will say this, the school does a great job of allowing parents to be involved in things like autism awareness month, and this for me opened up an opportunity to participate in a parent led sensory activity where we showed all the class rooms what it may be like to have special needs through fun hands on activities. It helped the kids be more accepting about understanding the SpED class, and connect with the parents and ask those questions that as kids they have. It opened up a conversation that many parents don’t have with them, and I was please toy surprised to see how many tried to connect and relate to them. Many even knew many of the children from the SpED class because it’s a big conversation here. Maybe it’s because it’s a smaller school with lots of participating parents, but it feels like a strong community.They also have lots of afterschool recreational activities at a separate cost. My 1st grader has taken BUCKETEERS, Woodcraft kids, M.A.D Science, and is now going to start Finance class (free) and basketball. They also have a clay class, and skateboarding along with other ones in not recalling now. But I would advise you apply in February during open enrollment if this is not your home school.
