9/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageKealing does well mostly because the students are super motivated and a lot of parents help their kids a lot. If you want good grades, you usually have to push yourself hard and have parents checking in a lot too, and I personally know some genuinely smart kids that use AI for all of their homework because of how bad it is. Some teachers are really good, but others barely teach and mostly rely on flip lessons and videos, especially in math. There’s a ton of problem sets, busywork, and weekend assignments, but not much actual instruction. Math feels like teaching yourself most of the time. There are also fights and bullying pretty often, but if you stay out of it and don’t get involved, you’re usually fine. "Commute to sunset valley ranges from 20min during non rush hour times and 45min during rush hour. Commute to downtown is 10min. Walkable to HEB and neighborhood coffee "

"It has a good mix of 'old East Austin' and new, modern establishments. The neighborhood is very walkable, with everything we need (restaurants, shops, etc.) close by. And it's a quick walk to downtown."

"The neighborhood is diverse as far as age goes, so there is a mix of families and a younger generation. But even the younger professional generation is pretty subdued in my neighborhood. It's definitely not a college student area with parties or anything."

"Though Austin schools have been criticized, the Blackshear Elementary school is in the top 10 in AISD. We have 4th Fridays on 11th Street where restaurants and retailers join with residents to celebrate our neighborhood. Quick jaunt to the airport, too, without the noise - airlines usually fly away from our neighborhood - incoming/outgoing. And there is Metrorail nearby. Truly a changing community with inclusion for old and new."
