Both my kids came from homeschooling. Relaxed homework deadlines, less formal, peaceful loving environment. From the start of the year the teachers were very un-accommodating. Giving failing grades to kids who didn't know how to log into websites used by the school. My youngest bullied and pushed to self depreciation. Concerns barely addressed by the school and staff until they had my son evaluated for the emotional state the bullying caused. My son told to ignore the bullies and sure that is what we say. However it's not the approach a school supposedly "tough on bullying" should respond. How could my son feel safe being brushed off like this?P.E. teachers who let bullying happen. A principal who ensures all is being done while only pushing out the kid being bullied and not the bullies. Let's face it. When kids can thrive at home and then they go to school for a community to fail them. Why send them at all.

RUN RUN RUN! This is, by far, the worst middle school in Spring Hill and Thompsons Station. The leadership here is disrespectful and downright rude to parents and students. My husband and I were yelled at for clapping for our child during an award ceremony. Not loudly clapping. Just normal clapping. I was appalled. If the leadership will treat me and my husband like that, then imagine how they treat the kids when the parents aren't around. The leadership here limits the freedom of the students, and they do not invest in the student's growth. Just read the reviews here and elsewhere online. My Heritage Elementary student has many more opportunities and freedoms than my Heritage Middle schooler has to grow socially. We are talking about pre-teens at an age where developing relationships is a huge part of life, but this school actively tries to stop it. Example, even 5 years after Covid, the principal forces the kids to still have an open seat next to them at lunch. The leadership does this to control the kids' ability to socialize. There are not opportunities at Heritage Middle for students to grow in their interests and passions. There are no chances to pick which specials you want like the other local middle schools offer. Here you can get jammed into 2 PEs and 2 Arts even if you want guitar and STEM. This happened to my kid EVERY year. Also, the flight time is a complete joke. Where other local middle schools let students build and program robots, Heritage Middle forces worksheets and yells at them to shut up. Flight time is a glorified study hall. And that's needed, because the amount of homework at this school is insane! The administration DOES NOT care about the students' experience or their ability to grow in their passions. We have had a few good teachers here, but the vast majority are not happy to be here. The principal sets a bad tone for the teachers and staff.Our oldest is finishing 8th grade there now, and we will do whatever is necessary (Out of Zone, private school, or move) to keep our youngest away from this school when the time comes. Please stay away from this school for your children's sake. For the record, my middle schooler is in advanced math and hasn't had a SINGLE step or disciplinary action against him in all 3 years of Middle school. I can assure you that the issue isn't because I have a "bad" kid. I cannot understand why the district doesn't remove the principal, because the concerns I'm voicing are not new for HMS.

Overall this is not a bad school, but it is in one of the worst districts, with the worst leadership you could ever come across. This district has cut a program that supports struggling students and families experiencing hardship by 85%. A program that is only 0.00% percent of the district's budget. The funds were instead diverted to cover dental plans for teachers, the district would otherwise have to cover from the district general funds. It is absolutely shameful.
