"At Christmas downtown Alma (a few miles from St. Louis) has a Christmas festival in downtown stores. Memorial Day weekend Alma also has the Highland Festival, with lots of bagpipes, a parade, a craft show and Highland Games and dancing. Those are the two that quickly come to mind. I grew up in the Alma area (5th grade through high school) and moved back here in 1990. It’s a relatively safe place, especially considering nowhere seems safe anymore. I love the area. After living in SoCal for 4 years and having notes come home with my elementary school-aged daughter warning of a “strange man trying to lure young girls” at the school bus stop, I decided to return to my small town in central Michigan - the middle of the mitten. "

"This is a great area for dog owners. I’ve lived in three different places in the last 15 years in St Louis specifically but in the area (Alma) for the last 34 years. This area is safe and very dog-friendly. I have a dog and so do several of my neighbors. "
  • Susan Nienhuis
"This is a more rural area and there’s not much public transportation except Dial-a-Ride buses, which are small van-like buses, not regular buses. "
  • Deanna Long
"We have annual Car shows , carnivals and 4th of July fireworks. Christmas Parade and Hometown Christmas We also have a lot of Churches who support out neighborhoods and small town. In the summer we have a memorial youth fishing event. "
  • Monicaforeman7
"It’s a quiet neighborhood with small parks and a river that runs through it. The community is supportive and look out for each other."
  • Monicaforeman7
"It’s a quiet neighborhood, people will respect other dogs by walking across the street to avoid unnecessary contact."
  • Jerrellmiller12345_12
"Friendly people, quiet, clean, safe, easy on the eyes, supportive community, respectful of privacy, great parks"
  • Karmen S.
"This is a very neighborly area/pet friendly. People look out for each other. I know my neighbors and they know me but are not intrusive."
