3/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageThe 3 star rating is conusing but after you read this review you will understand. If I were to rate the school now (before next years changes) it would be a perfect 5 star rating. I have had four children at this school. Two have moved to higher grades and two are still there. This has been amazing year for Lou Henry. BUT....we are losing our principal , head teacher and many great teachers who have decided on early retirement or moving to other schools. The new principal coming in is, at least to this parent, coming in with a very poor history of leading her previous school to academic excellence and she is bringing in her own lead teacher and all but one of the new teachers are from her old school too. I have been told this is all part of the no child left behind. If this is true , there are MAJOR flaws in the law.. I will have to read up more on the NCLB law. Lou Hery has come a long way and has excelled a little more each year under the outgoing leadership. I hope that my 2 remaining children at Lou Henry will not see declining academic excellence. I worry for them next year and I have never ever before worried about that at Lou Henry. Sad times ahead I'm afraid.Parent Review13y ago4 Reviews - Hoover Middle School

6/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating Averagethis school is horrid, in my opinion. all of the students act like wild animals and are not very intelligent, i feel so unmotivated to learn, a lot of the staff are quite rude, and they don't do anything about situations. my friends little brother was getting beat up by the 6th graders and the school officer there said that they were "play fighting", when it was obvious that he was screaming in agony. a lot of teachers aren't very supportive and very rude, especially with kids who have adhd or slight autism. the school is also disgusting, which i understand for it is very old, but they don't bother to clean it. two of the stall walls in the 7th grade bathroom were ripped off by the kids there and it took about 2 weeks for them to put one back up. overall, my experience here has been a nightmare, with all the disgusting children with no manners, self respect, or personal space.Student Review8mo ago16 Reviews - West High School

3/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageBorn and raised in Waterloo, Currently 21. Went to Kittrell, Orange, Hoover middle, West High, Hawkeye CC, and currently University of Northern Iowa. West High school will more than prepare your child for their future. They offer a excellent education in whatever your child may seek interest in, as well as superb sports teams. They as well have a detached Career Center building where your child can earn college credits and save money in the process. Teachers are amazing and your child will love it. As my classmates and i did. Police officers keep the peace, multiple counselors and Principals so your children will always be heard. AP classes and more available.Other Review3y ago4 Reviews - Check out schools near 1 E San Marnan Dr.

"Centrally located, traffic can be heavy/frustrating. You can make good time if you hit the stoplights just right, which is hard to do most days. "

" The community is really good if you get into people like that. There is not a lot to do around here unless you have money. There are a lot of trains around. People have dogs around here a lot and I hear gunshots a lot. I grew up here so I don’t find it very exciting. Most people got to work come home and stay away from each other. "

"Lots of retirees here now. Mixed bag for the rest. I had seen several first time owners buying in. Plenty of remodeling and renovations going on now too."

"it has some nice people, with sketchy people mixed in. it's too loud with harleys speeding hard through here and people thumping music too loud at all hours. I would not recommend this neighborhood to a young professional person. "
