Heartbroken by the lack of understanding for neurodivergent families :If you have special needs be prepared for endless meetings without support in place other than the meetings. Be prepared to hear that your sweet and intelligent child is bad.I really wanted to have a good experience here, but as a mom just trying to do what’s best for my boy, my heart truly hurts.My son is an amazing, super bright, high-functioning kid on the autism spectrum. Like him, I’m neurodivergent too, so social cues and communication don't always look traditional for us. Navigating this school felt so confusing, and over time it turned into a soft push out—quietly nudging us away instead of taking the time to understand and support an innocent child.Even a year later, I am still financially as a single parent paying the price for that push out with outside schooling. When I say I won't stop speaking up or sharing honest reviews, that’s what I mean: I am still living with the reality and cost of what happened, and I have every right to talk about it openly.It broke my heart when a simple visit to pick up his official transcripts got turned into such an ordeal, with administration misinterpreting my directness and asking me to leave instead of just giving me his records. Advocating for your child and sharing your lived experience isn’t a threat. It feels very retaliatory about OCR falling into whistle blower.I really hope the school learns to give more grace, empathy, and patience to neurodivergent families.
