8/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageAs a military family we have experienced great schools all over the country including the esteemed Fairfax County School district. I have never appreciated a school as much as this one. And my kids love it. I now understand why the middle school is rated as #2 in the state by U.S. and World News. This is our 2d year in the school. It is small. Just over 50 kids per grade. The kids are good people; the teachers and staff are amazing. I was worried about this school working for us because of my advanced learner who was a grade ahead in math. The school has no problem accommodating and now as an eighth grader he attends the high school for math every other day and the school provides transportation back to the middle school. My 8th grader absolutely loves his science teacher. Her method of education engages the kids everyday. I also have a 6th grader at the school. She has enjoyed every aspect of the school. After our first year I offered the kids the opportunity to go to school on post, closer to our home, so they could meet more local kids. They both declined. They like the school so much that the twice a day 38 min drive is worth it. As parents we like it enough to do the drive twice a day! The staff and teachers all seem to enjoy their jobs, respect the kids, challenge their minds, and create an environment where learning is fun and safe. Communication with the school is exceptional and the administration staff is top notch. I cannot say enough about this amazing school. (I have had no experience with special education needs which explains the neutral rating.)Parent Review1y ago9 Reviews - Riley County High School

"It’s a pretty safe community to raise children. Schools are really good and teachers care about the kids. Lots of places to eat, pretty decent night life scene. Not much for families to do outside of a few things. Definitely not a big city atmosphere. College and military town"

"I have 3 trucks so I can get there, anywhere, rain, sleet, or snow... and I also have 4X4 in each truck. But Manhattan uses round abouts and they don’t know how to implement them because they are all too small and a train wreck ready to happen."

"We've really enjoyed living in this neighborhood for over 10 years now. It's convenient to parks, grocery stores/shopping, restaurants, schools and trails. It's been a safe, great area for my kids and in the summer it is such a short walk to the pool. We are close to some major roads, but tucked back enough away that traffic isn't an issue. I love that they are adding some additional sidewalks and ammenities soon, too."

"It has great activities for kids. Not so many language classes but a variety of other activities. Daycare is very expensive and there is a shortage of institutions."

"There isn’t much of any close community events if there are any in our neighborhood. We have done some things at the school, that about sums it up. Otherwise, we go to the public library and they have had some fantastic events! We especially love the summer reading program - for both kids and adults! "

"There are many families in certain parts of the neighborhood with a elementary school being close by. The schools playground is fun for the kids. A city pool is nearby, but doesn’t have great hours and is rented out for pool parties. Also it VERY expensive per person. There is a amazing park nearby, much better than the one by pool. "

"Many people are very respectful of their neighbor's property. Usually people will stop and talk with yiu with their pets. In addition, many people walk around with trash bags to keep the yards sanitary and free of dog droppings."
