The new principal, who was hired in 2023, is very inexperienced and has created significant challenges for this school, particularly regarding staff satisfaction and stability. There is a deep sense of unhappiness among the current faculty, who have been vocal about their concerns. There is also an unfair burden placed on the staff, who are now managing several key aspects of what were previously administrative duties. This is especially evident in managing student discipline, meetings, and other operational tasks, which take away time and focus from what teachers can provide in the classroom. The environment has become quite strained, and many veteran teachers have expressed a desire for a change in administration to restore the school's previous standards. The high level of teacher turnover, resulting from a lack of administrative support, and the ongoing friction between staff and the new leadership over the last couple of years, has created an unstable atmosphere for the students.

Our experience at Elkton middle school has been nothing but a nightmare. The bullying is out of control and the principles and the school officials do nothing about it. A matter of fact, they lied to your face and tell you that they’re gonna do something but they don’t. they punished their students for missing time because of bullying and make it sound like the victim is the problem. The teachers have given up. They do not give homework. They do not bring books home. They do not bring a Chromebook comb they do not bring review she home too study for anything. It is a compete joke. They destroyed my child for school. She loved going to school. She was a straight a student. Now she’s a CD student and nobody cares. This school needs to be shut down because it is a disgrace and a waste of taxpayer money

The Algebra 2 math teacher at East Rock is terrible. They don’t know how to teach, and most of the class is confused every single day. They move too fast, barely explain anything, and when students ask for help, they either get ignored or talked down to.Almost everyone is failing or getting bad grades, and it’s clearly because of how bad the teaching is. It’s not even just one class the whole grade is struggling. The school doesn’t seem to care either. They keep the same teachers even though students aren’t learning anything. East Rock needs to do way better because this is just setting kids up to fail.
