What Locals Say about Edgewood

  • Trulia User
"Good schools and events for kids via scooby doo and other programs. Many local agencies available to assist if you reach out for the help. Many friendly services. Community Yard Sales. A lot of kids but not saturated. Much available to balance any new family. "

"Not much access to bus line. To get around you must have car. Plenty of jobs in the area. The train does run frequently."

"Not the best schools in my opinion. Also certain areas can be really sketchy and I wouldn’t trust letting my kids run freely outside of our court."

"Renting in the nicer area of Edgewood is much more pricey for the little extra space you get. I wish there were more 4 bedroom 2 bathroom houses in the area but there aren’t many at all. There are some gang related activities going on in Edgewood all together not many playgrounds for little children or swimming pools."

"The neighborhoods are often trashy, so you have to be careful of what your pets get into. I’ve had trash thrown over my fence. "

"There are a lot of dog owners in the neighborhood. There aren’t any dog parks or anything. But you can take a short drive to The Marina and let the dog play there. "

"Not the best area to raise a family. Too many incidents of crime to mention, plus three homicides with-in the past few months. Way too much traffic from the city, people move to the county to get away from the violence there, but unfortunately the violence follows them. They are some good people that live in the area, but the few coming from the city make it a terrible place to live. The school system is the worst in the area, teachers (a few) have given up on the children. The educational system does not challenge the children; either because they feel it is a waste of time, or they simply don't care. The local police are always on the move through the area with warrants, it's just not a safe place to live."

"I enjoyed to live in this area since February 1986. I know almost all the people in the Harbour Oaks Drive and are very friendly to me. I never had any safety incident or concern. I work for 30+ years at APG and my office is just 7 minutes (4.2 miles) from my house. Highly recommended for people working at Aberdeen Proving Ground. "

"I used to live in Edgewood as of last year and went throughout the Edgewood schools up until graduation at the high school just a few years ago. The schools are out of control, the teachers don't care about teaching, and the area is filled with violence. Gang violence even in the middle school. North of 95 is better. There is always some sort of crime going on in parts of Edgewood in the local paper and from word of mouth of people I trust who live there, and that is no exaggeration. I can tell you that going around where the High School is or behind the shopping strips on 40 are the worst areas. Know plenty in this area who want out. Being in the school district reduces the value of your home. I wouldn't recommend the area unless you do your research into which part of Edgewood is the "good part" and stay in those. Still, I wouldn't go to the public schools here."
