"Great commute. Next to bus station. They're skywalks that are easy to access with a map inside of the skywalk."
  • Trulia User
"Fun and convenient even for kids. Skate park, ice skating and arcade games. Very busy with people. Homeless people and broken glass down Allies. However Ded Moines does have people clean down here."
  • Trulia User
"Very Friendly small town Feel but not cleanly and nothing for kids to do. I love downtown, but it needs a lot of work with kid Friendly activities and picking up the streets. I see workers but I don't typically see them actually pick up"
  • Trulia User
"It’s not it’s just small and quite. There is always something going on downtown. It is a great place for singles to live. "
  • Phillgagner
"My commute is pretty much short anywhere I go. Skywalks are convenient during the winter months or even to avoid traffic."
  • Angela S. H.
"Easy access to the freeway if you work in the suburbs. Many residents work within walking distance. "
  • Danielle R.
"I use the bus or Lyft. I can walk to almost anything festivals, the east village and groceries. I Lyft to wdm and it's 16 dollars"
  • Renee C.

"Neighbors get together at holiday time and a summer potluck... Farmer’s Market Summer concerts in the city Parades at State Fair time Des Moines Neighborhood meetings East Village Promenade Baseball games Art Festival in June "
  • Jacqueline M.
"Downtown is a convenient location to access the river walk way as well as the bike path that leads to Gray's Lake for daily dog walks and green space. Dog waste bags are provided every couple blocks downtown in case you don't have any on hand. The Riverwalk dog park is a short drive/bike ride away for off leash exercise."
  • Renee C.
"Lots to do. Shows, concerts, restaurants. Seasonal arts, food etc. However no shopping downtown. Not a true live work and play community yet. Also trying to get biking easier but still needs work. "
  • Dmdegen
"There are a few great schools with skywalk access so no need to walk kids to school in rain and snow. Also don’t have to worry about traffic. "
  • Unspecified
"I have lived in this neighborhood for 13 years, and I love it! It is close to restaurants, entertainment, a post office and grocery store. Exercise options are many, and a fun atmosphere in a metropolitan area!"
  • Unspecified
"It is downtown and convenient for restaurants and shopping. Parking is not difficult for me, and entertainment is wonderful. Walking is pleasant, a YMCA is. nearby as well as a grocery store. "
  • Terry L. S. J.
"Downtown Des Moines is small, easily navigated, and is pretty quiet. There are usually plenty of events on the weekends at the Wells Fargo Arena. Court Avenue has plenty of bars and restaurants. There are numerous other restaurants within half a mile. There are plenty of parks and a nice Riverwalk. One the other side of the river are plenty of shops and restaurants. The Capitol building is over there as well and is one of the best looking I have been to. The only issue is that everything closes pretty early. I don't mind because I am normally asleep by 10-11."
