5/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI recently graduated from DHHS. I saw a lot of teachers leave and new ones come through who were just okay. A lot of things go unseen at this school. There are kids doing drugs in the restroom making it hard for those of us who actually had to use it, causing long lines and other bathrooms to close making the lines even longer. This resulted in tardiness. In my time the class change time was switched from 10min to 5 min. I don’t know what they were trying to do but considering the hallways were small and lots of students. It was hard to be on time. I cannot recall a single thing about what I learned there. I found the teachers to be uncaring in regards of mental health. I do recall a few teachers who went above and beyond for all students. But they were not the majority. There were always fights. Sometimes multiple per day. A car once caught on fire in the parking lot. Speaking of parking, they need to expand where kids can park. I had to pay $12 a day to be able to drive to school. I had after school activities and my parents couldn’t pick me up so I had no choice than to drive. I payed almost $600 in parking tickets and towing fees because I parked at the school. On campus parking was reserved for dual enrollment students and teachers kids. Overall. This school isn’t great, please if you want your child to succeed but they need a little help from teachers to do so, this is not the place.Other Review4mo ago - Mclendon Elementary School

4/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageMy child really enjoyed his Pre-K experience at Mclendon! His teachers were kind and observant as well as the surrounding staff . There was a good blend of learning mixed with fun activities too. The school has a supportive and caring environment. Also loved the diversity at Mclendon as this will prepare our kids for what the real world actually looks like. This school is making some real progress!Parent Review5y ago - Druid Hills Middle School

6/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageWe had high hopes for DHMS based on other people’s experiences we had heard, but the focus at the school is all wrong. The teachers spend more time dress coding girls than teaching. And none of the teachers are on the same page as to what is acceptable. My child has been removed from class many times due to leggings that one teacher thought were unacceptable yet later told by another teacher that they are acceptable. There is little to no respect given to the students by most teachers. Middle school is tough and an awkward time and we must remember the students are children. They deserve to be treated with respect. There are teachers that really should be fired, but due to their tenure, I’m sure they are untouchable. Screaming at children and making them feel less than is unacceptable in my opinion! Bullying is full force. Teachers do not treat all children equally. Counselors were very little help to me when I reached out. Shocking how many fights my child sees in the halls. The vibe feels more like a juvenile detention center rather than a nurturing educational facility. I think the school could make a big difference if only their teachers weren’t treating students like criminals.Parent Review10mo ago - Check out schools near 3258 Tobie Cir #YZ75V8.

"The area is a somewhat quiet, secure, nice neighborhood on Valley Brook Rd which is technically N. Druid Hills Rd after you pass Stone Mountain Freeway. This end of Valley Brook Rd is very safe, friendly and typical suburbia with shopping, restaurants, etc. literally just around the corner. Plus is the Dekalb County Horse Park is less than 1/4 mile off Orion Dr. and is beautiful . Drawbacks are traffic on Valley Brook as it approaches Lawrenceville Hwy is very dangerous as people totally ignore speed limits and literally fly down this road without regard for pedestrians or other driver's. There is a less than desireable apartment complex right at Orion Dr. and Valley Brook Rd that draws A LOT of foot traffic from it through the established neighborhood(s) and the elementary school children walk to school. They are very rude with no manners. Have no concept of what sidewalks are for and cut trough yards and throw their trash wherever they please. Valley Brook Rd is a 2 lane road that is used very heavily by driver's as a thoroughfare from Memorial Drive to N. Druid Hills Rd / Stn. Mtn. Freeway / Lawrenceville Hwy areas with no regard for traffic laws and the fact that it runs directly through a 100% residential area has no bearing on these driver's at all. There is also a lot of siren noise as there is a major Fire Department within 1/2 mile of my home and emergency vehicles use Valley Brook Rd as a thoroughfare as well and do turn off their sirens once they are in the residential section but you still hear them coming before they turn them off. This is a very nice neighborhood with most homes kept up and landscaped regularly. Most homes built around 1956 but a lot have renovations / additions like my home which was originally 956 sq ft but enlarged to 1700+sq ft in 2004. The main problem is traffic speed and inattention to other driver's and pedestrians. It does not back up bad; the people are just crazy who cut through area commuting. . "

"I live in the neighborhood and feel it is a hidden gem. Our visitors always complement our home and neighborhood. Service workers love the location, the ease of travel to Decatur, mid town, as well as the airport. We feel fortunate to live in Avondale Estates."

"Our community provides great value inside the perimeter with large trees and easy access to I-285."
