Trulia Halloween ghost hunt

Meet Hallowmere Manor

Photo of Trulia Hallowmere Manor

Hallowmere Manor is an 1886 Queen Anne Victorian. It has six bedrooms, four and a half baths, 4,313 square feet and just over 1 acre of wooded land. Inside a walnut staircase, a black marble fireplace that lights itself, and a two-story library with a working secret passage.

The listing agent, Mortimer Grave, is upfront about the rest. The cauldron conveys, so do the current occupants, who “have lived here longer than anyone.” Take a tour through the listing details, listing photos, and video to catch the residents hiding in the dark.

  • In the photos. The ghosts in the photo are invisible. Start the hunt and sweep a flashlight across the pictures to find them.
  • In the video tour. One drifts past the turret window.
  • In the 3D tour. Walk the house and you’ll meet them throughout the house.
  • On the page itself. There are two ghosts hiding, they are the hardest to find.

Every ghost you catch fills in your score card. Share it, and friends who open your link see your score and get their own shot at beating it. Keep an eye out on the rest of Trulia, too. A stray ghost has been wandering onto homepage, search and listing pages. Click it and it will lead you home to Hallowmere.

Trick-or-Treat Score

Every October, home shoppers ask a question with no listing answers: what is the street like on Halloween night? This year we made some changes to predict how Halloween will be celebrated based on local content. While it’s hard to beat the score in Hallowmere, here is how the top neighborhoods stack up.

Bridesburg, in Philadelphia, has the highest Trick-or-Treat Score we found: 90 out of 100. We scored 6,033 neighborhoods in 129 cities and ranked based on what locals say about living there.

Bridesburg, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

90% trick or treat score

Bridesburg wins on spirit: 94% of locals say the neighborhood has holiday spirit, the most of any neighborhood we ranked. Nearly everyone (99%) says there are sidewalks, and three in four say neighbors are friendly.

Locals describe a small, close-knit river neighborhood where families stay for decades. Some reviewers have lived there more than 45 years, and locals say everyone knows everyone.

One resident’s list of local traditions runs from a Christmas bazaar and a tree lighting to a carnival and a Memorial Day parade, plus “passionate holiday decorators.” Kids have a recreation center and a Boys’ Club, and the Delaware River trail starts here.

Westerleigh, Staten Island, New York

Westerleigh is the kind of place where the whole block is on a first-name basis, residents say. 86% of locals report holiday spirit and 97% say there are sidewalks.

Residents stay put. Reviewers mention 30, 40 and 54 years in the neighborhood. Locals say the streets are safe to walk, and Westerleigh Park runs activities for young children. For trick-or-treaters, the best part may be the smallest one: tree-lined streets with a 25 mph speed limit.

Lakewood, Dallas, Texas

85% score

Lakewood has the friendliest neighbors on our list: 81% of locals say so, against 50% in the typical neighborhood. It also scores 82% on holiday spirit.

Residents describe a small town inside the big city, where generations of families live side by side and welcome newcomers fast. Many of the houses date to the 1930s through the 1950s, and locals like that they aren’t cookie-cutter. White Rock Lake, the historic Lakewood Theater and a big Fourth of July parade give neighbors plenty of reasons to turn out.

Sloan Lake, Denver, Colorado

85% holiday score

Every local we surveyed in Sloan Lake says there are sidewalks: 100%. Add 76% for friendly neighbors and 78% for holiday spirit.

The neighborhood wraps around its namesake lake, with playgrounds and a 2.4-mile path, and views of downtown and the mountains. Residents describe neighbors who look out for one another.

Neighbors also throw a yearly block party that spans the surrounding streets.

Mount Greenwood, Chicago, Illinois

Mount Greenwood pairs high spirit (88%) with real follow-through: 70% of locals say there are community events, more than twice the typical 31%.

On Chicago’s South Side, residents call it a small town in a big city. Summer block parties are how neighbors meet. Parents point to the parks, the sidewalks and the sense that the whole block helps improve livability.
