Home from Hit Show ‘American Horror Story’ Now For Sale

Now for sale in Los Angeles – the “Murder House” from the hit new FX TV series “American Horror Story.” On the show, it’s haunted by ghosts of a murder-suicide, and the blissfully unaware Harmon family decides that the home is the perfect place for a fresh start.  Off-screen, it’s the stately Rosenheim Mansion on Westchester Place in Los Angeles.Architect Alfred Rosenheim built the estate in1908 as his own residence.

According to the Curbed LA archives, the city historic-cultural monument includes a three-story main house and a detached ballroom, which was “formerly a chapel” and is currently used as a recording studio. The house is decked out in Tiffany, with stained glass windows, light fixtures, leaded-glass display cases, and “a museum-quality set of Tiffany glass doors.”

The home also has a formal dining room, six Batchelder tile fireplaces, and a solarium. Property records show that the Rosenheim house has been on and off the market since 1999. It was listed in January 2009 at $7.5 million, came off the market in April 2010, was back on the market in January 2011 for $4.5 million and is still currently listed at that price. With that hit TV fame, the sellers are hoping the home will finally sell – hopefully for a nice chunk of change.

Fun fact: The show’s pilot was shot on location at the Rosenheim Mansion, and the house was later replicated on a set for the rest of the episodes.
