What Locals Say about First Hill

  • Gywh29ysxj
"Not a lot of green space to walk your pup. It’s near one park that typically isn’t clean and has quite a few homeless people. I wouldn’t walk my dog there. "

"Area is busy and street traffic may be dangerous on busier streets. Homeless population may be an issue near the freeway "

"There a lot of bars, restaurants and shops. Something for everyone. It’s changed a lot over the years and gotten a lot cleaner but that’s to be expected. There are still some really great places. "

"Busy area nowhere to really park. Lots of public transportation to get around the area. Not sure about the crime I stay to myself. "

"Not a good place for kids to thrive. Is extremely expensive to live. If you have a car, you will get ticketed parking in your own neighborhood. Even if you have a permit it doesn't matter, the city sells more permits than there a spaced to park and you end up getting ticketed and towed. There is construction going on all the time and the streets are tore up."

"Not friendly or a place where you will be happy. Meeting people is unrealistic here. Most people keep to themselves and then there's the rain and clouds. Very depressing."

"Streets are never empty. There is always someone out. No matter the day or night. The south side has a lot of hospitals and north Capitol Hill is more residential "

"Lots of bars and places to eat. Great place for students or people who like noise and have fun. In Capitol Hill not as many as in Downtown homeless people but still plenty. Near main roads very noisy."

"There are not many kids in the neighborhood and the public school is very poorly rated. Not a lot of great parks for young children. "

"I like it when the RedHawks have games. We don’t keep up with any of the schedules, but during this season, as we walk our dog, we always see practices or something going on, and always stop to watch games."

"This area is good for people who prefer walking to work. The restaurants are okay, but Capitol Hill has more amenities. "

"I have no opinion. I do not have a dog, but there are several nearby dog friendly parks. Owners can easily walk their dogs, and many apartments are dog friendly here."

"it's the people that make it special not the events. people here come together when someone needs help and people actually greet you in the sidewalk when you walk by."

"Quiet, beautiful, clean streets. Neighbors are always waving, coming over to talk, and American flags welcomed. Trails and good streets for riding bikes and long walks. No police activity and you can always count on people looking out for you and your family. Great garage sales. Flowers and green lawns fill the majority of homes. "

"99% walk score. Blocks from EVERYTHING. The rent is too high. And I’d prefer the homeless stop yelling at me randomly. City life. "

"It’s quiet and there are not any homeless people walking around. The community is on a hill that overlooks the entire city so you have an amazing view anytime of the day"

"I've lived in this neighborhood for 5 years and been fortunate to watch it grow in that time. Lovingly (or not so) referred to as Pill Hill for years because of the hospitals, First Hill has begun to reinvent itself as an actual place to live. Walking distance from Downtown, Capitol Hill, Central District, the International District, and one bus away from the whole world. There's the streetcar on Broadway. Walking distance to the Hideout, Quarter Lounge, Vitos, Sugar Bakery, a 24 hour gym, Stockbox Grocers, Frye Art Museum, Lotus Vietnamese, 206 Burger Co, Georges Deli, and Italian Family Pizza. The First Hill Improvement Association has really helped this place form it's own identity, and it's wonderful."

"Very safe area as there is good security patrol from local hospitals all night long. You can literally walk your dog at 3:00am and feel safe."
