What Locals Say about Town of Brownville

  • Shaylor C.
"This “village” is very small, so the only community events I see are the ones put on by the library (which is small)."
  • Brittanycean
"The busy main road and lots of “blind” hills over the side roads could make it dangerous if your dog gets loose. There are also not sidewalks along every side road so you must pick your route wisely or risk walking in the street for a portion of your walk."
  • Sam11c
"I’ve lived here for 3 years. Neighborhood is quiet and safe. Love the market. Conveniently close to Watertown."
  • Sam11c
"Nice small town with school, grocery store, bank, gas station, churches and more. Safe and friendly neighborhood. Close to small city that offers many family activities."
  • Brittany B.
"Dexter is a very small town. Everyone knows Everyone. The fire departments hosts a Halloween party for the kids every year and on Easter another place here hosts an Easter egg hunt "
  • Brittany B.
"Every person in the neighbor hood seems to welcome pets. Most of the Pets around here are friendly. However not everyone picks up after their pets around here. "
  • Dayna02
"School is close by if you have children. Water is also close by if you like to fish. Good neighborhood for families"
  • Matt S.
"The neighborhood is very quiet and friendly! I once had a pipe burst in my kitchen while my husband was away and ended up with 3 separate neighboring families at my house trying to help me!! We would walk our dog to the nearby park and throw the ball. The mall and the better Watertown restaurants are very close, only about a 5-10 minute drive. It truly is a great location!!!"

"I live here and it has to be the best place I've ever set foot in. To have a place that is so quiet, safe, and friendly is rare. Then, add a breathtaking waterview and waterfrontage to this, and it becomes heavenly. The sunsets and sunrises are beyond description. Everyday the sweet breezes blow in the windows, bringing sounds of gentle birds and wildlife. In addition to all this, there is the fact that it's only a 20 minute drive to town. All in all, this is a wonderful area to live, whether single, with children, or retired and looking to kick back and enjoy the lake. "

"Lived here for almost 5 years. Has one of the best school districts in the state (General Brown) and is a quiet lakeside town. Sackets Harbor and Watertown are only minutes away. Took me 20 mins in the winter to get to Fort Drum, nut is far enough away that you don't see and have young immature Soldiers making ruckus. The only downside is the lack of shopping and restaurants. There is a local grocery store that is family owned and very involved in helping out the community. The people are friendly and always willing to lend a helping hand. If I didn't have to PCS, I would still be living here."
