"Parts of Ridgewood are very quiet and safe. There is the L train as well as the M train passing through. Being right next to Bushwick is making it the better, safer and cheaper alternative. "

"Ridgewood is very safe. I feel at home living here. Is getting too expensive though in terms of rent. When the M train works normally is ideal but that's not always the case. Convenient for food shopping. There are lots of options. Although it has gotten better with cafes and reastaurants, that's an area where this neighbourhood needs inprovement. Overall I highly reccommend it. "

Ridgewood Guide

What's it like to live in Ridgewood?

Ridgewood is a "jack-of-all-trades" when it comes to the ambience of this area. Finding vibrant places in this part of the city is easy. Although the nightlife is quiet, there are a very large number of people around most of the time. Ridgewood is quiet overall, as noise from streets and other parts of the city is rarely an issue - however some areas can be quite loud, especially close to one of the railway lines. The greenery in this neighborhood is quite prominent as the tree canopy coverage for the majority of streets is reasonably good. Public green spaces are especially well-distributed and there are a few of them nearby for residents to relax in, which makes them easy to get to.

What kinds of homes are available in Ridgewood?

About three quarters of the population of this neighborhood rent their home and the rest are owners. Many dwellings are small apartment buildings, making it easy to find apartments in this part of the city, and the rest are mainly duplexes. A majority of the housing growth in this part of New York took place prior to the 1960s. This area is primarily composed of three bedroom and two bedroom homes.

What are the schools, restaurants and shopping like in Ridgewood?

It is very easy to access both a general and a specialty grocery store on foot from most houses for sale in Ridgewood. Forest Avenue is among the best streets for food stores. Furthermore, owing to over 100 restaurants and about 10 coffee shops, Ridgewood is a good area in which to go out to eat. It is also convenient to access a selection of clothing stores on foot. Concerning education, primary as well as high schools are especially easy to walk to from most houses for sale in Ridgewood. At the elementary level, there are both public and private schools.

What are the best ways to get around in Ridgewood?

Ridgewood does not demand use of a car since several other modes of transportation are accessible. This area has a great public transit infrastructure as a result of many nearby rapid transit stations with access to the L | 14 St-Canarsie Local Line and M | Queens Boulevard-6th Avenue / Myrtle Local Line, and about 10 nearby bus lines. It is also very easy for pedestrians to navigate Ridgewood; most daily needs are very convenient to meet on foot, and there are also a fair number of businesses nearby. This part of the city is not particularly amenable to cycling as there are a good number of elevation changes. Nonetheless, the bicycling network is comprehensive.
