"Neighborhood is historic but now it's terrible. I grew up in this area, the schools were once some of the best in APS system now they're horrible. People drive through the stop sign in my neighborhood as if it's not there. They drive really fast up and down the street inconsiderate of the children playing. We hear random gun shots anytime of the day or night. My home was broken into about a year after we moved in. There also appears to be drug activity at a neighboring home."

"It is historic! The largest and oldest neighborhood that was established, built, owned and lived in by black people. None of the homes were built alike. They are all originally and uniquely designed. Most of the houses are built on a reasonable size lot that are not too close to the adjacent home as well as not too far to create beautiful neighborhoods."

Collier Heights Guide

What's it like to live in Collier Heights?

Collier Heights offers a calm environment and will appeal to home buyers who enjoy spending time outdoors. This area is fairly good for those who like a quiet atmosphere, as there are usually low levels of noise from traffic - however some areas can be quite noisy, especially closer to Interstate 285 or Interstate 20. Finally, there are a few public green spaces nearby for residents to visit, such as Harwell Heights Park, and they are especially well-situated, which makes them easy to access.

What kinds of homes are available in Collier Heights?

In Collier Heights, many dwellings are single detached homes, but large apartment buildings and small apartment buildings are also present in the housing stock. This neighborhood offers mainly three bedroom and two bedroom homes. The split between homeowners and renters is about even. Roughly 45% of properties in this part of Atlanta were built in the 1960s and 1970s, while the majority of the remaining buildings were constructed pre-1960 and in the 2000s.

What are the schools, restaurants and shopping like in Collier Heights?

Driving is very often the best method of transportation in this neighborhood. It is very convenient to park, and most houses for sale are a short drive from the closest highway, such as Interstate 20. On the other hand, public transit riders may have few choices in this part of Atlanta by reason of the low service level.
