Land acquisition cost is less in Spring than in the Woodlands. That is one important reason along with several others. As far as suburbs there are many wonderful ones to choose from. What is so wonderful is you have such a wide variety to choose from. I think it is important to assess your needs & wants. Choose what is most important & make a list., i.e. the distance you are willing to travel, schools, if that is a factor, your social interests, are you near them,.... and you will get to where your search will be manageable & fun to work through. As for crime you might want to check with the Community Service Officer or SRO at the Harris County Sherriff's Department. Their number is: 713-221-6000. You'll probably get more and better detailed info from them than from anyone else.

Spring, Texas is an unincorporated 'bedroom' community on the north and northwest side of Houston/Harris County. You won't find us on most maps and there's no Mayor or City Council for Spring.
