There are always some short term rentals available in Nassau County. The north shore coastal villages should have some. Otherwise I would try Long Beach on the south shore. It's over 15 miles but the extra time is worth while. Great beach and nightlife. Check out www.mlsli.com. If you can't find a rental call local Realtors.They will be your best resource for rentals. Sorry to hear of your Father's Passing. Every family's situation is different. You have to do what is best for yours after consulting your leagal and tax professionals. Sounds as if you may have a good proposal. Check the comparable sales for the last 4 months & houses in contract. You should also review the competing properties. If the number is in range and a healthy offer with good terms, it may be best to consider it. No one can be certain what the future holds. Renting is another option, one with more competition. Your attorney should write a lease to protect your interests and the property.

Honestly.........In my opinion, .I don't see the problem as long as the seller takes on the responsibility of removing the tank and replacing/removing the tainted soil. This is not a unique situation. It can be extremelty costly, but it can be resolved. The proper permits and verifications will be in place......no reason not to proceed with the sale once that is completed.
Wish we could look into the tomorrows to come for an accurate answer, but unfortunately we can't--If you believe you have a good deal at hand and this is the property for you, why give it another thought. What we do know today-- interest rates are at the lowest since the 1940's, and there hasn't been a better time to buy--again who knows what tomorrow wil bring -- ultimately the decision to purchase, or not, is all yours based on the wants and needs of your lifestyle.... more
