Depends on your lease, in some leases its 30 days notice so could be why he did that, in some leases its to the end of the next month. What does you lease say?

Yes, there is help. We donate to MetroCare Ring in uptown. They provide groceries, toiletries and social services help without qualification and serve 500 people a day.

You have to check with your HOA on the rules and restrictions to see what is permitted. I would put one in the window so anyone passing by will see it. I hope this helps.
