Andrea.... If looking for single family home or townhome type dwelling vs. an apartment, also do a search for rental homes in the area and take note of the private property management companies that maintain rentals for people. These should be able to provide current rentals for you.... more
Some do but many don't. Your best bet if looking for a single family home or townhome vs. an apartment would be to do an online search for homes for rent in Gallatin and note all of the companies that handle them. These property management type companies almost handle nothing but rentals and since the owners sign with a specific company, there are rarely and duplicate listings among them. Most will display what they have available on their website but I would also call or email them with what you are looking for. Also call a local real estate company and ask for someone who handles rentals. That person can check the MLS and find those that are not under a management companies hold.
You'll probably also want to try looking at Craigslist but do so with caution. There has been quite a bit of scamming going on there. The point to remember when using Craigslist is to never give out any personal information or pay any money upfront before seeing the actual listing. Many of the scams have to do with being sent $$ upfront or requesting your SS# so they can check yoir credit worthiness first.
I hope this reply helped you some and if so, can I get a thumbs up or best answer click from you? Thanks and good luck with your search.... more
There is an app called airb&b that offers amazing temparary homes at reasonable prices. While I cannot endorse this company as an agent I can inform you of its existence and suggest it as an alternative to Craigslist and difficult to obtain short rentals. Another alternative is finding an extended stay hotel. The is one near you in Franklin that we stayed at and my family loved it. Good luck.... more
By "rural areas," do you mean the neighborhoods that will qualify for a USDA loan? If so, please drop me an email at email@example.com. I would be very happy to help you locate a great home near Clarksville that qualifies for USDA financing. Your question is posted in the "Rentals" category, however, so perhaps I am misunderstanding your question...... more
Nobody here can verify if a rental listing is legit or not. Unfortunately there is no way to police bogus listings. A good sign that it is NOT legit:
1. It's too good to be true.
2. You can't view the property in person.
3. You inquire about the property and you get a lengthy email back explaining how the owner is out of the country, doing "God's work".
4. They tell you to wire $$ and they promise to send you keys.... more

Best to check with the housing office for a complete list. http://www.campbell.army.mil/campbell/directorates/DPW/FCHS/Pages/FCHS.aspx
You can also check out my blog to see what is needed via Byers and Harvey, Inc a locally owned company that manages at least 2200 properties in Clarksville. Its best to see the current listings from one of the offices, because they will detail all of the vacancies in the area. Otherwise check out byersandharveyrentals.com to see the homes currently available.
BTW the Byers and Harvey office half a mile south of Gate 1 isn't just for renting, all of the agents there can help with buying or selling as well.
An application is free, and is good for 90 days. Some of our rentals come with one month free and $199 down, with $550 rent/ month. I will post more tomorrow on the RPP program. Welcome to the Fort Campbell area.... more

One of the more popular scams is theives that copy and paste real listings to Craig's List or any other WEB site for that matter. Here are a few ideas to avoid scammers. First, you can check if the person is real or not by checking their Real Estate -licence number against any Real Estate Commission in most states. I check if I don't know the agent thats showing my listing. BTW I go to showings anyway.
Second, never send money until you meet the agent inside the listing. One scam artist likes telling people -oh I forgot the key, lets setup another appointment for later. BTW would you like to give me the deposit so that I can hold it for you...
Finally, unless you are working with an apartment complex use a Realtor and check their WEBSITE to see how long they've been in business and if you are still uneasy, all agents in Tennessee are required to list their brokers name and number call the main office and ask them to send you a picture. If they are with Benchmark Realty LLC. Our pictures are on our broker's site, please check. Best wishes from Nashville. Becky... more
I don't work with rentals that much because I believe that most people do better buying. If you can afford the extreme rental prices in Brentwood you would do better to purchase. If you have credit issues there are many ways of getting a loan these days. While I'm not in the lending business I do know great lenders that can at least start the process. Good luck. :)... more
