We have been told that almost all agents who list properties also use Craigslist. They say to check daily to find what you are seeking.

We have found that Craigslist is your best option for a rental. 85% to 95% of all rentals leased in San Diego County are found using Craigslist. It is used to advertise rentals by property owners, property management companies and agents alike.
Start by putting your preferred zip code in the search box and then enter the rest of your requirements, including the check boxes for pets if needed. There is also a pull down menu for the type of property you are seeking (apartment, house, etc) Check often and call/e-mail right away as many rentals move quickly.
Beware of rental scam listings and ads that "look too good to be true”. Make sure you talk to the person managing the property and meet them to see it. Scams usually involve people asking for a deposit in order to see the property. The "owner" usually states they live out of state or out of the country. Other scams involve people stealing pictures from homes for sale and then posting it as a rental with a low rental rate.

Unless you have great credit and a ton of cash, rent-to-own isn't for you.
The up-front costs of rent-to-own are punishing enough, much more than "key money," and the premium you'll pay in rent is staggering. Then, when it comes time to actually buy the house, you're likely to find that it's not worth what you agreed to pay for it in the first place. Or even, worse, you find that there are much better houses out there for you to buy, but you're stuck in this one.
Rent now, buy later.

This is a tough one... But there are owners out there that may rent to you. A few things that an owner may consider in lieu of your previous eviction:
1. Larger deposit
2. Pre-pay several months in advance.
3. Have someone co-sign on the lease for you.
These may help your chances but may not guarantee you a home, so I would apply to as many rentals as you can, be honest with the owner and see how it comes out.
You will find a home, you just have to be diligent!

My suggestion would be to find a place where you are dealing with the owner. Go out and meet them, tell them what happened and where you stand. Be open and honest and you may find that there are a lot of compassionate people out there. good luck and God bless.... more

It certainly does not hurt to research areas to determine if this is a location you will want to live. You can also research what the rental rates are for homes in the areas you like.
A year is a bit too soon to focus on a particular house since it may not be available when you are ready and may not be in the same condition.... more
