Additionally, FHA financing normally requires THREE years from the short sale; HOWEVER, IF 1) the mortgage payments were made on time within the 12 months prior to the short sale, and 2) you aren't looking to purchasing a similar or larger home in the same area as short sale you can actually buy the very NEXT DAY after escrow closes on your Short Sale.
That's because every owner thinks a big dog is going to poop all over the place & chew on baseboards, scratch doors & turn their nice home or apartment into a complete mess.
What you need to do in this techno-savvy age, is to do a video on yourself with your dog, tour you're would be landlord through your current home/apartment & show them that your place is immaculate, take other still photos of your dog, write a cover letter along with your rental application & get letters of recommendation from previous landlords that your dog is nothing to fear & he's a gentle giant.
If you don't have a video camcorder, ask your friends, I'm sure one of them do & they'll let you borrow it or film you with your dog themselves. Don't be surprised though, that the landlord will still want some sort of Pet deposit, maybe $500, so save up for that.

I use demographic data frequently, especially, for residential condo/townhome or mixed use projects on which I work with developers but I have never seen direct data of the kind you are looking for. ESRI is very good and at times you could use US government data though do remember that it is likely to be dated and you will have to extrapolate and make projections which could increase the risk and make your results unreliable. As a developer you may have used regression analysis when applying statistical data for projections and will appreciate the risks you run.
My suggestion is to try and contact the marketing and research departments of established food and fitness chains and see if you can buy it from them.
