The open house is still a great tool in our current market. Many buyers will look at homes without an agent representing them. Potential buyers can view an open house with out pressure. It is a great opportunity for us to sell our own listings but if not we have the chance to pick up a new client. I always have my lap top with me so I can show the statics of the area. I ask the buyer what they are truly looking for. I have samples of neighborhoods in several price ranges and I have my mortgage person available to qualify the buyers if they are not already qualified. Open houses also give us the presence in the neighborhood. Fellow neighbors see our efforts to sell our listings and when we sell them usually call on the neighborhood specialist. Linda, I think you were poising this question to Trulia's buyers and sellers not other Realtors. Choosing a Realtor is a very personal issue and one that should not be made in haste. The client must feel that their Realtor is working for them and that the Realtor has experience and dedication to the profession. Does that mean the agent has to be full-time, not necessarily? There are many "full-time" agents that only work part-time and many part-time that put in full-time. My suggestion, interview, interview and interview until you find the agent that you feel comfortable with. I've included a link with 10 questions to ask when listing your home.
