The other answer is incorrect. While this property has a Hummelstown zip-code (lower Dauphin), it is actually part of Derry Township. This school district is highly rated and sometimes called the Hershey School District.

Londonderry School on Bamberger Road (just off of Cameron Street near HACC) is nice. Try searching for private schools in Camp Hill and Lemoyne too. They are across the river from Harrisburg and only take about 10 minutes to drive there. Go to http://www.greatschools.org and run a search for private schools. You'll be able to read parent reviews and school ratings there.... more

Please see this tool at the Pennsylvania Department of Education website, http://paayp.emetric.net/. With it you can explore the school districts and schools that are in the 17109 zip code area. For example, see this page for all schools that are in the Central Dauphin district, http://paayp.emetric.net/District/SchoolList/c22/115221402. You will see that all but three made Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) for the 2009-2010 school year. (Data for 2010-2011 are not available yet, it seems.) You can click on the icon on the far right for further info about each school.
Making AYP, by the way, is the benchmark set forth by the federal education law (No Child Left Behind) to show that a school is effective with its students. While there are other ways to determine if a school is effective, particularly as it might be with your own student, making AYP is one place to start.
Hope this is helpful. I am not a realtor - just a long-time K-12 educator with an interest in providing solid and actionable info to parents about schools and school districts. Good luck with your search.... more
Cut off date for what? Enrollment can be done pretty much any time of the year. There is, however, cutoff dates for entering a child of a certain age into a certain grade. This cutoff is usually dependant on the school district. You will need to contact the specific school you wish your child to attend to get those answers.
