To find out what agents are asking, call several and ask. It's likely they'll all be in the same range IF they offer the same services. That is, you'll probably find full-service agents around the same general figure. You'll probably find the discount agents, or those who offer a la carte services, grouped together somewhat lower. But the figures can vary geographically and each broker (and most agents) have the flexibility to set their own rates.
Yes: You can negotiate. Absolutely.
Just because an agent says, "My normal commission for selling a home is x%" doesn't mean the number isn't negotiable. Now, the agent may or may not be willing to negotiate. But it doesn't hurt to try.... more
