At the same of sale, the comps did not support the value. Prop 13 will only control the rate of increases. The assessor is correct. You already got a good deal it seems. The difference isn't that great anyway, what, $300 a year. Chill and rent it out or flip it and make some cash and get out.... more

Even if it is a short sale, and your credit score is good, most lenders will not consider lending immediately after a short sale. As some other posters have mentioned, it can take 4 years or longer to get conventional financing after a short sale---little less for FHA.... more
The historical district has beautiful homes and is close to a lot of things like the ferry, interesting shops and is walkable. Yes there is crime, but read the stats before you condemn the older part of town. Petty theft & crimes like taking a car w/o permission (this means family member, not a stranger)...not gang shootouts (try East Oakland, for that). Or if you like spend your life hiding under your blankets. Wherever there is people there is crime and in this age of cars, it can be transported anywhere. Just do your due diligence & you can find safe, interesting neighborhoods & not "ticky-tacky" suburban subdivisions........ more
