I grew up in Greenville on the Eastside - my zip code went from 29607 to 29615 from the seventies to the nineties - unincorporated Greenville county. Graduated from Furman and spent lots of time in the 29611 area. I own the property that I grew up in.
I'm an agent in Atlanta, but I have some greater Greenville perspective.
You are right, the 29611 area remains pretty rural and the "luxury developments" that have become a large part of Greenville's residential growth, really since the 1990's - from Thornblade to The Cliffs - well, you don't see much of that in 29611.
I can't really speak about the retail amenities and schools over that way, but I do know that 29611 culture is way different than 29601 downtown.
I'm sure that it' s a "good place to raise a family" but that is super-subjective and hard to know what that means to you.
If you wan t rural, you'll certainly find it in 29611.... more
