Depending on the time of day, this condo complex should be about a 15 minute drive to the College of Charleston.

West Ashley encompasses a huge area in Charleston and some areas of West Ashley have more crime than other areas. The area of Bolton's Landing is a pretty safe area, but as we all know there are no guarantees wherever you live. Even Mt Pleasant, John's Island and James Island all have their incidents of crime...
Trulia actually has a section where you can look at crimes in areas and what kind of crimes were committed.
Hope this helps,
The Charleston area has many great areas and neighborhoods. It would be my pleasure to help as you explore your options. If you send me an email I would be glad to send you an area relocation package.

Presently there are about 35 homes on the market in that area, Centex is a decent builder though personally I have others I prefer better. If you need help in purchasing either in this area or others that I prefer, just contact me, my contact information is below. We would be glad to negotiate this deal or another to make sure you are not over paying for a house in today's up and down market. There is no charge for our services, our fees are always paid by the seller. So give me a call or email when you get a chance so that you get the most bang for the buck!

Understand that the LISTING PRICE has one primary objective, to attract attention: It is not intended to be set in stone, and in many cases it is not even a good guideline toward the SELLING PRICE.
Some Sellers believe that by setting the LISTING PRICE high, they can always come down, and people will make an offer anyway: WRONG! Buyers will just bypass the property and look at houses that are within their price range. And six months from now, the Seller will slowly start lowering the PRICE, (this is called “chasing the curve”) and Buyers will be asking the question; “What’s wrong with that house?” and “Why has it been on the Market so long?”
Other Sellers set the LISTING PRICE low, to attract multiple offers. (The correct strategy.) We are asked; “Aren’t you obligated to sell at this price if someone offers it?” The answer is probably not; for that to happen, you would first have to have only one offer, and secondly, the offer would have be exactly the same, down to the smallest detail, (please discuss this with your Realtor).
Another thought; Buyer will search for potential properties by groups; for example, $400,000 to $450,000, and $250,000 to $300,000. If your house is priced at $460,000 or $310,000, the Buyers will never see it. (something else to discuss with your Agent.)
Different Banks have different philosophies about pricing their properties: You cannot draw any conclusions without a good analysis.
Have your Realtor do a CMA, (Comparative Market Analysis) to help you determine your Offering Price. It is the surest way to determine the Market Value of the property.... more
I have lived in Shadowmoss Plantation since we built our home there in 1984 and raised four children there. My three sons graduated from Middleton HS and my daughter from West Ashley HS. As a Realtor, due to federal Fair Housing laws, we are not able to comment on relative safety of areas, but you can call the Charleston County Sheriff's Dept. at 843-202-1700 and inquire about that. Regarding schools, here is a website where you can see the performance of schools in SC: http://ed.sc.gov/data/report-cards/ (copy & paste to your browser.) You can also go to http://www.greatschools.org/ to check on schools. If you are not currently working with another Realtor, I would be happy to work with you and you can call me at 843-225.3106.

The best reference I could give you is the following link to research a community http://www.onboardnavigator.com/1.5/webcontent/obwc_search.aspx?AID=108 or just contact the local police office and they should be able to give you some information about the crime rate, etc.
I am very familiar with that area and if you have any other questions or would like to tour a home please let me know or visit my website. www.charlestoncreativerealestate.com
