Taos is small, but we do have several dentists, and a couple of optometrists. Holy Cross Hospital is great. Our daughter had an emergency appendectomy there, and her surgery went very smoothly. There are a couple of group medical practices in Taos as well. Our family does not leave town for these services.... more
The Ski Valley is kind of far from the hospital: ~30 minutes on winding mountain roads, and I think the only school up there is the ski school. If you live in Taos proper, there are lots of schools and plenty of kids around. The Weimer neighborhood, where the hospital is located, backs up onto the Carson National Forest, so there is plenty woodsy to do without having to drive much at all.... more
Hello Daryl: There are quite a few single ladies living in the area and it is just fine. I have lived in the area for several years and I am 66 and single and find it to be quite pleasant. I also have an earthship for sale close to Lemuria the address is 7 Freedon Rd., Carson.... more
That area may get a tad warmer than town but not appreciably. There are few deciduous trees on that side of the Gorge Bridge and that has an impact. We get warm weather in June but if the monsoon rains come as they did this year on or about July 1st, that pretty much ends it as late afternoon showers bring lower temps. Maybe 6 to 8 90 degree days a summer. We have been here for 19 straight summers and my wife has gone to the movies twice to get into air conditioning. I hope this helps. harvey blaustein... more
I have never locked any doors in my house for 23 years. I leave my keys to my car in the car and in the ignition wherever I go and parked at my house. Truck keys are always in the truck. This is the safest community I've ever been in. Secret is to help others, be of service, share and be grateful daily, trust in the inherent goodness of others and don't live in fear.... more
If you go to http://maps.yahoo.com and type in your starting address in the 'Get Directions' option, then type in 2200 Sunport SE, Albuquerque into the 'B' field, you'll get an accurate estimation of distance and time.
From Taos in general, it is 134.62 miles and depending on speed, can take about 2 1/2 hours. Hope this helps.

First, begin by contacting the local Taos Board of Realtors for contact information on the several of your local brokerages. Then call the managing broker and ask them to make a referral to an expereinced agent and/or property manager who can begin to work with you to find your rent with option to purchase home. The phone is 575-758-7411 and their web site is www.taosmls.net. My recommend would be to find an experienced Realtor who knows your market and would be best informed on current opportunties. Best of luck in your efforts!... more
