Just wanted to thank everyone for their advice and opinions, even the one from PA as we are originally from WV. To clear up a few items I read, Joe: I never said we could not afford our mortgage and that is definitely not the case. We were just trying to take advantage of a lower interest rate.
I don't think we could qualify for any programs because we are not in trouble, never made any late payments and we are not trying to refinance $180K, only the $100K left on the mortgage. We do have one HELOC, but both combined are $150K; well below what we thought a fair market value would be on our house. After putting $100K in upgrades, inside as well as the outside I mentioned, that would mean my house is only worth $69K?? This was what was so upsetting to us. Thanks again everyone.... more
