I recently looked at the property. The actual property is lovely. The "babbling Brook" is a bit close to the home for my taste, about 6-8'. The place is totally gutted and open to the elements and has allot of mold and Rat feces. I think the septic is not in working order either. Most of the extensive decking needs to be replaced also.
If someone had some time and money it would probably be a good deal. It is really quiet and peaceful there. It just need Major TLC.... more
I would check if you with your tax advisor. I beleive that if there is a write down that does not go through a foreclosure action, that in may be a taxable event. If there is a principle reduction in a modification that is a taxable event. But if the bank does not file the paper work it might not be taxable but the bank will have some reporting issues that they may have to discuss with the irs. Who knows what the irs will do in this enviorment?
