Santa Clarita Valley is an awesome place to live with quality schools if you have children. It is also surrounded by numerous freeways and highways for quick access in every direction. Others will say they like Chatsworth, Simi Valley, to Thousand Oaks, areas surrounding the area you mentioned you would be working in. California is a commuting area, for example some drive from areas such as the Antelope Valley (Lancaster and Palmdale) to the San Fernando Valley and West LA for their jobs, and that is a serious commute.
Bottom line, if you are going to be on the road quite a bit for your job, then you need to determine realistically how much more traffic you can truly tolerate. Some folks absolutely dislike commuting and acknowledge the impact on their personal lives and family. Even quality sleep can become a large issue. I know many who calculate the lost time on the road, vs. the added time to their life (work time vs. personal time). Weather and/or one accident on these busy freeways can add frustration and additional loss of personal time.
My strongest recommendation is view the areas that interest you and Do the Drive.. Yes, it will take some time, but drive it the hours that would match your work schedule. It is surprising how many people do not do the drive or check out a community on different days and times. The park across the street may be filled with children on the weekend with little parking available or maybe the weekend loud music party house is next to you. I have some clients that did the drive and it clearly helped them determine the distance that they would and would not travel, so it sat boundries for their home purchase. Be happy with your purchase in all aspects, it is a large investment in more ways than one.
One last note, I regularly drive the areas you are planning to work at all different times of day and in all directions, so if you just want some traffic info, please don't hesitate to call.
