It really depends on the area. The best thing you can do is call the Raleigh Police Department. They provide a great service on a street-by-street basis. You can call 919-890-3325, and on a street-by-street basis they will fax you all the 911 calls placed in the past year, and why they were made.
I'd also recommend speaking with an officer assigned to the area. My experience with the Raleigh PD has been very poitive with these matters.

As for an attempted rape, I can't help you. I've lived in this zip code since the 1980s. There have been attempted murders and other disheartening crimes in parking lots, etc. within 1000 feet of WakeMed hospital, however, that hasn't deterred persons from seeking care.
So I hope you'll look at a larger picture, i.e.: is this house suitable for your needs? If you look at similar properties w/o knowing about any potential crimes, will you feel the same? BTW: all crimes are not reported - whether in Raleigh, Wake County or NC.... more
I think the best way to answer that is to provide you with a resource that I think you'll find very helpful, which is a mapping tool the City of Raleigh has developed. You'll quickly discover that ANY neighborhood has its fair share of crime reports, it's just a question of understanding the data and comparing to neighborhoods that you are familiar with so that you can develop your own personal level of comfort with any particular neighborhood... http://www.raleighnc.gov/home/content/Police/Articles/OnlineCrimeMapping.html... more
It's not there. I have found the crime maps hard to read and I have been told that the crime stats, especially in Chapel Hill, aren't accurate because the hospital draws patients from all over the state and reports incidents locally. I don't know if that is true but I encourage all of my buyer clients to visit the local police station and discuss with them the areas they have an interest in.... more
