There aren't too many 2 bedroom houses and few townhomes but it also depends on the area and your price range. I would be happy to look for you if I had the area and price range but 2 bedrooms are rare right now.... more
Just a side note: If it were a scam, you'd be able to get through to the scammer easily. That's how they make their money--by dangling a great deal out there, then collecting the money from the suckers. The last thing a scammer would do would be to make it difficult or impossible to contact him/her.
Al is correct that Texas (unlike the other 49 states) has laws in place that effectively prohibit lease-options. However, I disagree with him that they're so one-sided. Still, that's a moot point since you aren't going to be able to structure a deal the way you'd really like.
I do agree with his suggestion to keep renting while you're working on the credit scores and saving up the money for a downpayment.
