Good question. I am not a fan of rent to own but understand why people are attracted to the idea. It never seems to work out the way you want it to when the time comes to purchase the home.
A question I have for you is when was the last time you had your credit scores run and was it run by a mortgage lender? I don't know all of the facts so I couldn't say for certain if you could buy now or not. If you could buy though now, you would need money saved for down payment and closing costs not to mention having a little cushion still left over for living expenses and be employed for over 2 years at least.
Its always best to have a relationship with Realtor® or buyer representative way before you ever plan to do anything this way when the time comes, you will be well informed and ready to go. Creating a plan for the future is the way to go. Most people don't do this and they wind up just picking some Realtor® or licensed sales person out of the blue and making bad decisions.
If you would like to put together a plan or discuss this further, please feel free to email me at firstname.lastname@example.org or contact me at 215.669.0589.
