As for our home which is 23 miles south west of Murphy, we do not have to take any of our bulbs out of the ground for the winter. We have been told that our home is on/in a "thermal zone" and that there are many in NC. Amazing what grows here. And in the 6 years we have lived here we have had very little snow.... more
Our lake view and lake access home is for sale in Lake Apalachia Acres and we pitch in $150.00 for road maintenance each year. Lake Apalachia is the lake below the dam from Hiwassee Lake. We do not have the boat traffic nor the water fluctuation that the other lakes have. We have a landfil you can take your garbage it is open 7 days a week,there are also green boxes in several locations throught the county for residence to use. If you live in town of Andrews or Murphy we have once a week garbage pickup. There are also independent garbage collectors that service the county and they will come by your house and collect your garbage.... more

You really should be working with an experienced buyer broker. You may not know it but buying foreclosures is extremely risky, their hardly ever the deal a buyer thinks they are. Well you can see from the answer below there are restrictions on this property but, restrictions are not all bad. Some help maintain the value of your property and encourage proper up keep of roads, water systems and clean living.
However, if you want chickens and other farm animals, you should really consider purchasing unrestricted property, so that you may have your animals. Even some properties that say minimal restrictions, may possibly limited the type of animals, structure, and square footage, or other factors. If there are restrictions of any kind, always ask your agent for a copy prior to submitting or at the time of your offer on the property.... more
Murphy has a large super center Walmart, a large Ingels grocery store with a great produce department. We also have a Burke Clothing Store, a Cato Clothing Store and several other small business clothing stores which are for the most part locally owned.
If you want Profits, Dillard's or Macy's or large department stores, you can always drive about 45 minutes to 2 hours to either Cleveland Tennessee, or Marietta Georgia.
We have a Lowe's here and Blairsville GA which is about 20-30 minutes has a Home Depot.
Whether you decide to buy near the Tennessee line or the Georgia line or downtown Murphy, you are within easy driving distance of shopping for all of your every day needs.

Being originally from Florida I am aware of sulfur smelling water. It was "normal' there. But here it is not so normal. For 15.00 you can have the water tested at our local Health Dept. Go on in to the Cherokee County Health Dept. and pick up a clean catch bottle. They will also give you instructions on how to catch the water from either an inside location or from the well itself. Ask for a mineral and bacteria test. If the water comes back high in minerals, and sulpher is detected I would get a good water filtration system. However, I drank sulfer well water from age 4 to 28 and considered it normal, with out any physical effects.

So, you do not need to fear Sulfer water, in fact to bathe in it, also is reported to have positive health benifits. I do know that the biggest issue is the smell, and hopefully a filtration system will help with that. There are very good filtration systems available, and most are easily installed.
