John, I like to advise folks who are thinking of remodeling to consider WHY they're going to remodel. If they're remodeling to bring the home up to market standard just before listing it, I say, go for it -- but be sure you know what the market standard is. Your Realtor can give you information about similar properties that sold in the area and can share with you the condition those properties were in (totally remodelled, minor updating, etc.). Be sure to comparison shop for your remodeling project - you don't want to overspend. Keep in mind that the majority of home improvements do not make money for the homeowner, but they can help the home sell faster if it's priced right to begin with. Buyers are always interested in getting value for money, so if they're between your house with the upgrades you mention, and a similar home without the upgrades, they may be more likely to choose yours if the prices are similar.
You asked if you should consider anything else. The condition of your furnace, air conditioner, roof, and windows is also important to buyers, should you decide to list your house. Be sure that these are in good working condition, because no amount of cosmetic updating can compensate for structural or mechanical defects.
If you're planning to stay in the house for several years, my advice is to remodel to your heart's content. There is definitely value in the pleasure you gain from your new tile, countertops, etc.... more

To each their own. If you like brick veneer then the buyers may not you can't make everyone happy all the time.If you are going to live there for 3 more years and like the idea of veneer. Do it and enjoy the home the way that you see it and worry about the selling when the time comes. Good luck!... more
