Contact the local school district. It's likely all the information is online. If you don't know the web site, if you're inquiring about Mineola, just Google: "Mineola public schools." That will bring up the site. Go there; most school districts will have online boundary maps. If there aren't any online boundary maps, then just get the information phone number from the site, and give the school district a call. You give them the address, and they'll tell you what school your children will go to.

Hello Sophia! I get asked this question a lot regarding particular neighborhoods. You should check out the crime statistics with the local police department. Additionally, consider driving around the neighborhood during different hours of the day and night and talking to residents. Who better to ask then those who live there? Realtors cannot comment on the desirability of an area. I always advise my clients who are looking to relocate to a new neighborhood, to complete their own due diligence.
As for schools, take a visit to the schools you are thinking of placing your child/ren in. Sit in on an actual class, talk to parents, students, etc.
I hope this answered your question! If you have any further questions, please feel free to contact me by the ways below.
Wishing you all the best,

Co-op maintenance fees vary according to many factors, only some of which are due to different amenities.
In addition to the amenities, the maintenance will differ depending on what the property taxes are on the entire building (both school and county taxes) and the number of shares in each unit, the physical size of the unit, whether parking is included in the maintenance, the amount of upkeep being done on each property, whether there are additional assessments required for additional upkeep (such as roof or window repairs & maintenance), how much area is "common area" for landscaping &/or snow removal, whether the co-op corporation has a "master mortgage", and many other factors.
These differences create different maintenances from building to building.

The online assessments are the last place I would look in making an offer. Are you represented by a Realtor? Ask him/her to run neighborhood comps on sales within the last 3 months (only) and to compare the properties to each other, making adjustments for additional or less rooms, etc.
This is what a property assessor will do before you are granted a mortgage.
Also bear in mind that you are purchasing a home, not just a house.
If you would like a referral to a top notch Realtor in your area to represent you, contact me at Gail@GailGladstone.com and I will be happy to provide that for you.... more
