Hi Joe, currently on the Garden State MLS (primary listing service used by realtors) there aren't any rentals fitting your criteria in Long Hill Township, but there are a couple in Watchung Borough. If you'd like to work with a realtor you can engage one of us directly, but otherwise Keith mentions some great resources you can use. Good luck! Elisa... more
Hi Ed2012, great that you have found a home you love - Long Hill is beautiful. Diane is right, carpenter ants are not at all uncommon, the important thing is that the seller has responded to the issue. We've had weather events over the last 12 months that have really stress tested the water tightness of homes. Long Hill does have areas where the water table is high, so it is good to be vigilant. I would ask specifically what the impact was of Irene and other storms to get further info. Septic is a decision point - we still have our share of septic systems in Somerset County.
You will want to hire a good inspector in any case - he will be able to evaluate the home on all of these fronts - you will likely need a separate resource to inspect the septic system and this will involve another fee, the inspector will likely have someone he works with/recommends.
Another suggestion - if we have a good soaking rainstorm during the time you are evaluating the home, ask your agent to get you inside to see how the house responds. I think "after a big storm" is the best time to visit properties.
Good luck to you! If you need suggestions on inspectors, I've got several I think are top notch.

Hi, New Vernon Rd is a continuation, or extension of Long Hill Rd. There is little public record activity on New Vernon Road, but a 4 bdrm, 2.5 bath Colonial recently sold nearby on Long Hill Road for $529k. Around $500k is typical for the homes in this area. My brother Tom and I specialize in helping buyers and sellers in this area and are happy to assist with your search.
Hi Ela, are you still out there and considering a purchase in the Long Hill, Berkeley Heights, New Providence area - you had also expressed an interest in Basking Ridge earlier on. All of these towns are great - each one different, but all well regarded. I'd suggest you also add Warren Township - and Watchung to the list of contenders, they feed into Watchung Hills Regional High School, as does Long Hill Township (Gillette, Stirling, Millinton all fall into this township).
Thought you might find recent posts on activity in Basking Ridge and Warren helpful. If you do find this type of info helpful, just let me know and I would be happy to provide it for any community you are considering...all a part of the way that I add value to those I serve.
