When it comes to any safety/crime related issues, it's always best to contact the local authorities with all your questions, hear all there is to hear firsthand. If unfamiliar with the area(s) do revisit more than once and at different times of day, possibly chat with locals/neighbors. Real estate professionals are prohibited from steering, enticing a buyer to purchase/rent, or not, in specific neighborhoods.
You can get that information on the Wake County tax site (wakegov.com). Go to "I want to..." and select Search Real Estate Records. Type in an address on Brighton Road. Select the record for that address and go to the link with "Map" on it. Once there you can see a link in the bottom right corner that says "Raleigh Crime Search." Once there you can select a radius and go back it time and it will give you a record of all that's gone on within that area over a period of time. Very useful.... more
Sheri is definitely right on the money. In addition to that I would say if you end up finding a property you like, drive by in the early evening just to get a feel for what the neighborhood is like at night. Don't hang around obviously- but be there just long enough to see if it is reasonably quiet and settled. You don't want to be part of any stats yourself by being a loiter!... more
