It's cozy, comfortable and full of friendly neighbors. Quinnipaug Hills feels like you are camping 24/7. Smells like fireplaces all the time as all units have one or a wood burning stove. Well water is an issue- very hard water plus klebsiella issues. Check EWG water quality reports. Would need a filter for showering/laundry and bottled water to drink...seriously QH, this is the big reason I wouldn't live here. I wouldn't want to brush my teeth with water that would make me ill. Snow removal was not ideal in '10-'12 when we lived here, people were late for work waiting for plows. I would have paid more in HOA fees to be able to get to work. Hopefully this has been remedied. The former tennis court area has still not been finished. HOA fees should have factored in those very necessary changes...since its just a deserted tennis court I wouldn't want to drive by here every day. There is no pool or clubhouse...explain the fees? All landscaping and snow removal? I am glad we rented and didn't buy the unit, but would consider going back if a few things were changed.... more

Yes, I have two properties listed that will do a Rent with purchase option. They are both located in Southbury and one has an in-law apartment attached to the 4 bedroom home. It's a very nice brick ranch, listed for $400,000. I also have a very nice 3 bedroom, well maintained home that will do a Rent/Option. That is listed for #329,000. That home is in a pretty setting and a very convenient location to schools, highway and shopping areas. I also have a rent/option possibility coming up in Middlebury. Please feel free to contact me at 203 228-0393 for more information. Thank you, Marian... more
Now is the perfect time to get your search started. I closed a rental with a 6/15 start yesterday (5/1). Darien's rental market moves quickly especially going into the summer months when people want to get settled before school year starts.
The month of May should bring many new rentals in the area. My only advice is to be ready to act if you find the right property.
I hope this is helpful. Let me know if I can help you further.
You can also research schools and demographics on the Cerc.com, choose the "Resources" tab and click on "Town Profiles" where you will see a map of all the counties in the state. Select a county and then a town within that county. (Example: Fairfield County - choose Newtown - the click "Download Latest Cerc Profile." This gives you Demographics, Economics, Education, Government, etc., etc. It's a great resource for side by side comparisons of different towns.... more
Happy New Year ! I am sorry that you are having health problems. I hope that 2014 is a better year for you. I too was a single mother of 3 children for many years. I understand that you want to feel safe. The average rent in Waterbury for a 3 bedroom is anywhere between $800-$1000. This was always out of my price range....way out of my price range ! There are several apt complexs that base your monthly rental paymant on what your income is. This may be an option for you. Feel free to give me a call 203-437-1667... more
I moved to Stamford, commuted to NYC too. Waited three years for a parking pass, so I just went in super early to get the pay as you go spot, or parked at the Noroton station, which is the next stop and has tons of parking...as does Greenwich.... more
Shippan, north Stamford are the places to be. Sadly, the public schools are terrible. Those of us who live here know it and when we can, either send our kids to private school, or move to Darien, New Canaan, Ridgefield, or the Westport area. Lost many neighbors when their kids got to school ages...... more

Dreamy Hollow is a co-op, which is more rare in CT than NY. The common charges are quite high (on average about $950/ mo) but they cover all taxes, heat, hot water, pool, garbage, and property maintenance. The benefit of a co-op is that you can write-off your common charges on your annual tax return (something you cannot do in a condo). Mortgage and common charges would average about $1600/ mo. for a 1200 sq ft. Townhouse with two bedrooms and bathroom. You will not find this kind of space and layout in Lower Fairfield County for this price. I am a resident here ten years (meaning I bought at the height of the market) and still feel it is the best investment I could have made.... more
