Putting in a carbon monixide detector is a required state law....so it is not your Realtor coming up with the request...it is mandated. I gather that you are selling your home...other mandates include having a water heater strapped properly and an adequate number of fire detectors.... more
Hi Lynda, In staging we have an expression " We don't Sell as we Live". Since you can afford to move and leave your home as a blank canvas to start, that is the best option for a quicker sale. Many people are allergic to cats, ( you will need to disclose that there have been cats in the house) It would be wise to seek professional help in what you can do to get the "cat" allergens out of the house. A fresh coat of paint in what we call "Realtor Beige" is most favorable. What is under the carpet? If there are hardwood floors it would be most advisable to expose and treat the wood as people are preferring wood over carpet. If the person that wants to buy your home would like carpet instead, they can pick the color and quality they want and cover the wood. Save your money on the carpet if there is wood. If not, then choose a matching "Realtor Beige" color carpet it is most advisable. Neutral works the best. Ask your Realtor for recommendations for a Stager or go to A.S.P. website to find local accredited staging professionals.
Best to you and your family.
