Meanwhile, we in the realtor community also work hard to increase awareness of the red flags, asking a person to wire money, especially over seas, a price that is 'too good to be true' (usually IS too good to be true) and refusing to meet the other party face to face.... more
Here in Colorado Springs we have title companies that provide us agents with weekly updated lists. So, talk to an agent and see if they have access to that. It's actually easier to go through and keep up with than using a newspaper. If that isn't available then I would do the newspaper.... more
An appraisal would generally come in much less on a home with a crawl space than it would on a home with a basement. Without a full basement you are losing storage space. Your utilities, which are usually in the basement (ie; hot water heater, furnace, electric panel) all then move into space within the home itself causing you to lose actual living space. Most contracts have an "on or about" date as the closing date which usually means that the closing date will be set anywhere 30 days before or after that date. You should consult with your attorney about your options but I doubt there's really anything you can do. Sorry. I hope it all works out and wish you many happy and healthy years in your new home - when it eventually closes.
