Hi Marsha,
How are you? I hope you're doing well.
Are you moving local or intersate? I have recommendations for a few different movers depending on my clients specific needs. Several of them offer discounts and/or free packing materials. If you'd like I can send you some coupons & you can review the various deals to see which fits you best. Feel free to email me though my profile & put "recommendation for movers" in the subject line.

Hello Sheena,
How are you? I hope you're doing well. Coogan's is a pretty cool restaurant/bar in Washington Heights. They have TV screens & stay open until about 4am. I absolutely LOVE their grilled portabello burger!!! Check out their website http://www.coogans.com. Like Alison suggested, try Yelp and I would also suggest Zagat as well. Take care :-)
Looking forward,
Christine Gordon

Hey Erin,
As a parent I understand your concern about the safety of your child. My best advice for you would be to call the local police department for each potential location you're interested in, and find out about the crime rates for that specific area. It may be a bit tedious, but I know you definitely want to know as much as you can before finding the perfect home for yourself! Let me know if I can help you out in any other way.

Hi Thea. This is a question that at it's heart, is one of the Quality of life. Manhatttan is certainly a fantastic city. Many families have lived and thrived there and continue to do so. Great cities also have a plethora of influences from clothes to food to entertainment. Walk to the corner Deli at 2:30am and get something to eat. Things move very fast in New York.
The West Village is a fantastic, vibrant part of New York. There are Townhouses there with great space and light. Subway access is available and there are many Restaurants and boutique shops. You're a short walk to NYU and Washington Square Park. I will say as there is never much available in that area, prices can be high.
On the other hand, some people prefer the suburbs. A nice house with a backyard and some space, maybe a Dog. That might also mean a commute into the city but weekends with the Family at Home are hard to beat. Location, Location, Location. There are different meanings to different people. You just have to choose your lifestyle.
If I may be of service, please feel free to contact me via Trulia. Good luck.... more
City Island is sort of like Annapolis, MD and other boating paradises, as it is full of marinas, boats, and great seafood restaurants, yet it is within the NYC limits. It is in the Bronx, right next to Pelham Bay and park, so maybe you should check that out too.... more
Keep in mind that scams do exist and you may have stumbled upon one; always verify ownership before exchanging any money; for scam related information see link http://www.ftc.gov/opa/2009/05/rentalscam.shtm For transportation information, see helpful link www.hopstop.com/... more
Hi, Any of the Rivertowns (Cold Spring, Croton, Dobbs Ferry, Irvington, Tarrytown, Sleepy Hollow, Hastings, Ardsley) in Westchester are perfect. The commute will be about 45 mins from them except Cold Spring which will be a little more then an hour. We have the Rockefeller preserve with great trails and hills, then there is Bear Mountain. If you would like to have a more in-depth conversation aboput these towns and options please feel free to message me directly. I'm a runner so I understand your needs.
Sincerely,

FOR RENTERS: check out nybits.com - there are available listings directly from the management companies and no fee brokers;
For brokers: know all good rental buildings in your area of service and which ones pay OPs at the moment - then just call these few buildings instead of searching for the listings and verifying their status as of today. I just searched for an apartment for my client and out of 90+ listings 90% were outdated and unavailable. I just ended up calling several building's leasing offices directly to check if they had anything available in our price range.
on Streeteasy.com you can find them all by choosing "for rent" then "by owner/manager no fee" and then specifying the area and your rice range.
For example on streeteasy there were 1,421 for rent by owner or management company listings
Median price: $3,481 Median size: 700 ft² Median price per ft²: $62

They are actually not sold only to companies. To be honest, I would advise going outside of new york. You can purchase tax liens out state. Rates and rules are better outside of NY. They are typically held at either in person or online auctions and individuals can bid and purchase them. Good luck!... more
Firstly, It is important to find out if you prefer to live in the city proper (i.e. one of the five boroughs), as opposed to commuting from New Jersey, or Long Island. Secondly, it is important to find out your price range, which may or may not limit your options (the closer you are to Manhattan the higher rent will be).
If you prefer to live in the city and have access to the subway system (which will make for quick commuting, and be cheaper than commuting by way of LIRR, Path or MetroNorth) then I would recommend the outer neighbrohood of Brooklyn or perhaps some of the more suburban neighborhoods of Queens.... more
The question is subjective; much depends on personal preferences, what may be unique and exciting to one, may not necessarily be the case for another....
I would recommend saving up a bit more money, or at least having full-time employment in place, before being set on renting an apartment. Landlords typically require an income of 40x one's monthly rent, and given the prices of apartments in NYC this could prove to be a problem for you. Perhaps you could start out sharing a room with someone, or seek someone looking for roommates, which would allow you some time to adjust to living in NYC.... more
