Juhi, Home Buyer in San Jose, CA
Juhi asked:
I'm a buyer and my real estate agent gave me a portion of her commission. She also sent me a 1098 recently. Is this taxable? I bought a home from a builder and my real estate agent gave me part of her commission. However, she just sent me a 1098 for it. Is this taxable? BTW, this was not on the HUD statement.

What is the average commission fee for the real estate agent when you sell the home? Both the listing and the buyer's agent? Could you give me ballpark estimations?
And is the rate different for each agent? Or about the same?
